Yoga is awesome! We had to start with that fact because there are still some of you out there who are skeptical about the benefits of yoga and some of you who know the benefits but just don't have the confidence to go to your local yoga class and get started on the journey. Now I know there are guys out there saying hey, you won't catch me in a yoga class stretching all over the place cause it's for women. You need to cut that attitude out because you are missing out on one of the best things in life. That stereotype is long gone, and more and more men are realising the benefits that can be achieved from undertaking yoga. Leaders in the sporting arena such as LeBron James, Shaq, Ray Lewis and the New Zealand All Blacks integrate yoga into their routines. Even celebrities such as Matthew McConaughey, Jessica Biel, Robert Downey JR, Charlize Theron, the great Joe Rogan and many many more are embracing this discipline.
We do yoga for its strength benefits and cardiovascular benefits as well as spiritual benefits. It is a great way to build core strength, stamina, endurance, tone your muscles and improve your physical relationships. Flexibility is a massive part of yoga as you probably well know, it is advantageous in all parts of your life, from playing sports to simply walking around. We didn't go through millions of years of evolution to sit on the couch and get fat, and if you have done just that then get your ass up and go to a yoga class, it's not just for fit people. Many people spend so much of their time either laying down sleeping or sitting at an office all day. It is a proven fact that the human body was not designed to sit down; yoga will help counteract the ill effects of spending so much time seated.
Like we said, we do Ashtanga yoga with specific focus on stretching and strengthening areas required for sports but we encourage you to not only research all types of yoga but to go try all types where possible to see which one suits your body and fitness level.
What you should also remember is how beneficial yoga is to the body and mind. Yoga works to remove all the waste and toxins that we build up inside, and clear your mind of all distractions going on in your life. It can aid with insomnia, stimulate and massage your internal organs whilst promoting stress and anxiety relief. You will be sweating by the end of a class, but your body will be cleaner.
Do not start if you get bored easily or are expecting to be great at it within a couple of months, yoga isn't like that. It can be likened to nature. Nature is steady and gradual and so is learning yoga, there is no benefit in hurrying, there are classes for all levels, so take your time, do your research, and most of all don't get disheartened when you can't do a pose in the early stages, we all go through that but when you get there it is a great feeling of accomplishment.
We challenge you to go to a class and give it your all. Focus on that moment, your breathing, your body and nothing Else, and rest assured you will come out feeling so much better for the experience.
