Happiness has got to be one of the hardest things in life to get right, the thing that no question will take the longest time to get right but is what should always come first in your life.
Happiness isn't about how much money you have or what kind of car you drive or how many material possesions you own, that's all just a bonus, an added extra in life that if we can get then great but if not then it truly doesn't make the slightest bit of difference. True happiness comes from how you structure your life, surrounding yourself with people who are only going to add to your life and not just take from you like a leech. So don't be afraid of offending people with the truth and expelling them from your life because those people who get offended easily are to be avoided! What's the point of being on this earth if all you want to do is be liked by everyone?
The other big part of our lives that affects happiness hugely in my opinion is our job. It is vital that you don't get stuck in the trap of a job that you hate, a job that when you wake up in the morning makes you say FUCK!! I don't want to get out of bed to go to this place again. Trust me that will kill your soul like nothing else, I know, I've been there. So in our work lives I say "quit as much as possible", in no other aspect of life do I say that but in working life I say quit as much as possible until you find your happiness.
So don't go down the same path everyone else does, you have to be a maverick and not conform to all the silly rules in life, break the rules, not the law but break the rules. Conformity leads to zero individuality which in turn leads to sadness. Don't be a yes man who gets taken advantage of all the time, because that will infect you like a disease and suck all the happiness out of your life. You have to put yourself first in life. Always. Because nobody else is going to put your happiness first. Nobody. Ever! It is YOUR life, you only live once, but if you do it right once is enough.
